The Journey Begins

While working at a friend's pharmacy, Dhruv Mathur Gupta saw villagers travelling for hours from remote villages, often sacrificing a day's wages just to buy essential medicines. Most of them returned empty handed as the medicines weren't available.

Taking Medicines to Every Doorstep

Determined to make healthcare more accessible, Dhruv built a small procurement network, sourced medicines directly from suppliers, and personally delivered them to people across Dharamshala. This made life easier for many people.

The Complaint

"The Medicines Aren't Working."

Everything changed when one customer raised a simple but serious concern: the medicines weren't working. Soon, similar complaints began appearing, turning one isolated incident into a question that couldn't be ignored.

Looking Beyond the Complaint

Instead of dismissing the reports, Dhruv investigated further. The deeper he looked, the clearer it became that medicine quality wasn't consistently verified. The issue wasn't just access, it was trust.

Turning Problems into Product Decisions

Together with Dr. Shivangi, Dhruv reimagined what an e-pharmacy could be. Every gap they uncovered became a product decision, leading to one promise: SayaCare where every batch is Tested before it reaches customers.

⚠ 28% of India's Medicines Are Counterfeit

To better understand medicine regulations in India, Dhruv read Dinesh Thakur's “The Truth Pill”. The story of 12 children who died after consuming fake cough syrup deeply shook him, especially because his own customers had reported medicines not working. An ASPA report reinforced his concerns: 28% of medicines in India are counterfeit, meaning 1 in 3 medicines may not cure you.

SayaCare gets every medicine batch independently tested by a third-party, Government certified lab before listing it on the platform. Not just every medicine every single batch. That was Dhruv's vision, and it continues to define SayaCare today.

From manufacturer to retail pharmacy, medicines pass through multiple middlemen, increasing the price customers ultimately pay. Along the way, repeated handling and inconsistent storage conditions can also reduce medicine quality before it reaches patients.

Branded medicines cost significantly more than generic medicines because pharmaceutical companies spend heavily on marketing. At the same time, quality concerns prevent many people from choosing generics, leaving patients stuck between expensive brands and untrusted alternatives.
